If you are reading this, you are the resistance.
The lines have been drawn here in the USA, if it wasn’t clear already. It was never about “protecting children” from “groomers” or “indoctrination.” Over 350 anti-trans and anti-drag bills are being pushed through state legislatures across the country, emboldened by a Republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.
They want to ban gender-affirming health care at any level -child, adolescent, or adult. They want to effectively outlaw presenting as ourselves, or at least in attire that is not in agreement with our assigned-at-birth gender. They want to police our schools, and our thoughts. What comes next, we have to identify ourselves with pink triangles and gold six-pointed stars? Massive propaganda campaigns equating us with animals, and proclaiming us less than human?
Wake up. It’s on the wall, and we’ve been ignoring the rising warnings. They want us gone. Imprisoned, fired, put away, and eventually exterminated and erased from existence. And then, they will deny it ever happened.
Once more for those in the back: They. Want. Us. Gone.
Gone, as in post-World War I Germany and the rise of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party. They know their time is up, and they’re losing power, which they do not want to relinquish. They’re doing anything to stay relevant, and pass on their beliefs and ideologies to future generations, in order to perpetuate the same hate that demonized gays through most of the 20th century, nearly six million Hebrews during World War II, and people of color in the United States for centuries.
We can’t give them that power. They didn’t get their “red wave,” and now they’re making us their scapegoats. Sound familiar, in terms of a defeated Germany after World War I, anyone?
We have to call our state senators, our Representatives, we have to remind them that they work for us, and not for special interests. Everytime fascists show up to cause trouble at story hours, drag shows, or any events, we need people to stand up to intimidation, before it breaks down into physical violence. (Remember Pulse in Orlando, Florida – Club Q in Colorado Springs, Colorado – and others not mentioned here.)
If you support us, stand with us. Let the dinosaurs know that hate absolutely will not be tolerated. We are NOT being forced back into the closet, we are NOT going to spend the rest of our lives wondering if our names are going to be read or listed during the next Transgender Day of Remembrance, we are NOT turning back the hands of time to satisfy what effectively is homegrown Conservative and Christian Extremism. We don’t want, or need an American Taliban.
