#123 – Stuff I Don’t Regret Challenge (001) – “That LBD” And Memories At Sun Valley Mall

More or less stuff, trans or not, that I’ve done over the last 25+ years, that I’d more or less do again, regardless.

SunValley Mall in Concord, California – Kind of a special place in my life… I’ve been there at least half a dozen times over the past 20 years, stemming from a visit there in the late 1980s or early 1990s, when there was still an arcade there (I remember playing Taito’s arcade game adaptation of Rambo III), and the Atari Lynx handheld game system was introduced to the masses. Quite a bit has been written about it (And not just about the air crash tragedy that happened just before Christmas 1985) – check out the write-up and vintage postcards posted up by BigMallrat.

For me, it was a place to explore in my wanderlust, when I’d road trip around Northern California. I’ve been there quite a few times, especially within my last few years I lived in California. Sometimes, I wonder what my life would have been like, if I had lived in Concord, Martinez, or even Walnut Creek or San Ramon?

#91 – Backtracking: My Trip To Dress Barn (March 26, 2011)

Catching up again, as always – Let’s start out with one of my most recent events, shall we?

March 26, 2011 was my first time out shopping as myself, to a private after-hours shopping event, hosted by Dress Barn, and members of the River City Gems, the TG/CD group in Sacramento, CA, that I’m a member of.

To tell you the truth, even now, I’m deathly afraid of going out as Julie Anne to public places, especially by myself – Mainly for fear of getting “read”. (I guess I just have to assume it’s going to happen, and work hard on not calling too much attention to myself, because, inevitably, I’m going to have to prepare myself for the eventuality of going out in public, not in the company of other TG folks.) – Most of my shopping up to this point, I’ve done in boy-mode. Perhaps I’m making too big of a deal of this than I really should. It seem, the more I get out there, and the more I research, and the more people I talk to, a lot of mainstream retail places, primarily Dress Barn, Lane Bryant, Sephora, MAC, and a few other places are TG-friendly, usually mandated by a company-wide policy.

Maybe it’s a good thing, because people like us, especially those of us who are part-time girls, or who are just beginning to take the steps to transition, are benefiting the U.S. economy — twice! ^_^;

#28 – Slave To The Call Of The LBD Once Again…

Or, to put it another way – I tripled my LBD collection with the acquisition of two Norma Kamali sleeveless jersey dresses – one knee-length shirred column dress, and one racerback maxi-dress, for $5 each, both on clearance at Wal-Mart, on my way home from spending an evening out in Sacramento, CA (Caught another live “shadowcast” performance of Repo! The Genetic Opera up at the Colonial Theatre in South Sacramento’s Oak Park neighborhood. ^_^; )
