#95 – Picnic In The Park, And Some Brave New Steps…

Catching up with the last few months, because this is my forum, and I have every right to “spike the ball,” using my home field advantage, of course! ^_-;

Saturday, May 21st was another adventure, as well as another small step for me getting out and about among the mainstream world, for that day was the River City Gems picnic, the second event of the month, at a park along the Sacramento River, by one of Sacramento’s many suburbs.

#91 – Backtracking: My Trip To Dress Barn (March 26, 2011)

Catching up again, as always – Let’s start out with one of my most recent events, shall we?

March 26, 2011 was my first time out shopping as myself, to a private after-hours shopping event, hosted by Dress Barn, and members of the River City Gems, the TG/CD group in Sacramento, CA, that I’m a member of.

To tell you the truth, even now, I’m deathly afraid of going out as Julie Anne to public places, especially by myself – Mainly for fear of getting “read”. (I guess I just have to assume it’s going to happen, and work hard on not calling too much attention to myself, because, inevitably, I’m going to have to prepare myself for the eventuality of going out in public, not in the company of other TG folks.) – Most of my shopping up to this point, I’ve done in boy-mode. Perhaps I’m making too big of a deal of this than I really should. It seem, the more I get out there, and the more I research, and the more people I talk to, a lot of mainstream retail places, primarily Dress Barn, Lane Bryant, Sephora, MAC, and a few other places are TG-friendly, usually mandated by a company-wide policy.

Maybe it’s a good thing, because people like us, especially those of us who are part-time girls, or who are just beginning to take the steps to transition, are benefiting the U.S. economy — twice! ^_^;

#68 – New Photos! (New Text Coming Very Soon!)

…Not like I’d let the site fade away. I’m just waiting to make some time to hide myself away and catch up on the past three weeks’ worth of my life since I started attending events with the River City Gems group, up in Sacramento, CA.

Yes, I know, I need to catch up on blogging about my time at River City Sparkle at the beginning of the month, and then the Halloween party this past weekend. Next Gems event I’m hoping to make is the November social, happening on Saturday the 13th! Sorry, between hanging out on PINKEssence, and playing Lord Of The Rings Online and Dynasty Warriors Online, they’re taking up most of my waking hours. ^_^;

Anyway, some of the most recent pictures since the beginning of the month!

#65 – Catching Up: River City Sparkle 2010 – My “Thank You” Post

Hopefully I’ll be able to collect my thoughts, and detail my entire weekend here. For now, I give you the post I sent to the River City Gems group on Yahoo! about an hour ago:

“(Be warned – this is a long post. I like to write, as most of you will find out. ^_^; )

I wanted to start off, by expressing my thanks to the staff of the Red Lion Hotel, and, of course, the staff and officers of the River City Gems for making my first time out (At a Gems event, or in public, for that matter), something very special to me, something that I will remember every day for the rest of my life.

Yes, I’m the (somewhat shy) new girl who showed up in the little black dress, the long black gloves, managing not to fall while teetering and getting around in 3.5” heels, the one who stood up when they asked any of the girls if it was their first time out, and their first Gems event. Thank you for welcoming and accepting me, for putting on a wonderful night of socializing, entertainment, and fun, and for making me feel welcome.

#58 – Sick, But Satisfied…

I picked up a cold over the middle of last week. Funny how that happened, especially since I spent most of the past week, and the week before that, in the house, save for a few times out, like last weekend, and yesterday, and one day about a week and a half ago, but I apparently got lucky. You go, girl! 😛

So, I’m sniffling and sneezing, and I’m hoping to beat this, because I’ve got a few things coming up – Primarily, I’ve made the decision to attend my first public event where I’ll meet other folks like myself. I’ve bought a ticket, and booked a hotel room to spend an overnight stay up in Sacramento for River City Sparkle this year, put on by the River City Gems, a relatively new (three years running) transgender support group in the area. (About an hour and half from my hometown.) They have members  from around the area, including the Central Valley (where I’m at), the Bay Area, the Sierra Nevada region, and neighboring states. (In fact, one of my new friends on PINKEssence, encouraged me to attend the event.)
